How to boost your memory after 50?

How to boost your memory after 50?

Some time ago, I ran into an old acquaintance who told me very clearly: “Listen, I’m 50 now, I’m too old to boost my memory…”

But STOP! What a huge mistake!

These are just excuses, and I'm going to set the record straight! 😉

That's a common misconception. In reality, after a certain age, we use our memory less, and that's precisely what makes it less efficient, with no direct link to age.

1. Games

Playing games is an excellent way to stimulate your memory: word games, number games, Scrabble, Sudoku, chess, or even reading!

Talking with children, meeting new people, exchanging ideas, and discovering new activities, including those that require thought, like those mentioned above. And for the more adventurous, why not try an Escape Game?

One of my students, aged 50, told me he had signed up for a writing and calligraphy workshop. This is an excellent example for stimulating memory.

2. Sports activities

My oldest student, Alain, is 80 years old and regularly plays sports. Sport is, of course, essential for the body, but also for the brain!

“A healthy mind in a healthy body” – “Mens sana in corpore sano”

There is a link between the mind and the body; the two are interdependent.

Doing some activity every day, even if it's just 10 minutes, can have beneficial effects. Whether it's 10 minutes of mental exercise or 10 minutes of physical activity, it will be of considerable help.

3. The social aspect

Meeting people and breaking out of your routine also helps enormously. Indeed, at a certain age, we tend to fall into a "commute-work-sleep" routine, with few new interactions. Always talking to the same people and having the same experiences reduces cognitive stimulation. That's why it's important to do new things: participate in meetings with entrepreneurs (even if you're not one yourself), attend conferences, visit a museum, or go for a drink somewhere unfamiliar. The idea is to step outside your comfort zone, which will stimulate your brain.

4. Maintain a healthy lifestyle

Diet plays a crucial role in brain health. Fat and sugar are veritable traps, leading to diseases such as high cholesterol or type 2 diabetes.

Getting enough sleep is also essential. Indeed, sleep during the night helps consolidate memories!

Apply each of these tips and you'll see, your memory will be boosted!

Today, we have all the resources at our disposal to learn new things, but paradoxically, never before have so many people learned so little. It's time to refocus on what's essential.
