Just type "speed reading" into Google and the word "scam" appears right next to it. Fact or fiction? Who to believe? Where to begin?
1. The proven scam…
When you first start speed reading, it can feel like a scam. Your brain seems to freeze, refusing to accept the idea of reading very quickly…
So, is it really a scam?
After 10 or 15 minutes with no results, you could easily believe it… A cognitive block, and no visible improvement. What a scam!
A bit like Usain Bolt and his incredible records… another scam, isn’t it?
A simple internet search will convince you…
2. What if, in the end, it wasn't a scam?
More seriously,
I've often been invited onto TV shows, and a question that comes up frequently is: "Mohamed, does it really work?"
Everyone is different. Just because one person can't do it doesn't mean another person can't.
In reality, you need to combine speed and reading comprehension, while also working on yourself. We are often very distracted, and this is reflected even when we read: our body is not always in sync with our mind.
So no, speed reading is not a scam. Scientific studies confirm this, notably those from the University of Marseille, which studied the brains of some doctors who themselves practiced speed reading.
