5 Habits to Adopt to Feel Better

Back to school is here, and so is the return to routine! After a holiday break, it's true that it can be difficult to re-establish a good routine. Sleep, work, daily tasks… everything is a bit disrupted. That's why I'm suggesting 5 habits you shouldn't neglect as soon as school starts!

1. Practice physical activity

It's often said, but sport is health. A healthy mind in a healthy body is the key to well-being. Regular physical activity improves the brain's cognitive abilities and contributes, in the long term, to better concentration and memory.

It's far more beneficial to do several short sessions per week than one long session only occasionally. The brain needs routine, especially exercise, to keep muscles fit and ensure proper metabolic function. Endorphins, also known as feel-good hormones, are released during and after exercise. These hormones play a vital role in reducing anxiety and stress.

2. Go on cultural outings

Numerous studies have shown that cultural and artistic activities are beneficial to our mental health. Visiting a museum or exhibition allows us to escape while stimulating the imagination and enriching our general or artistic knowledge. Subconsciously, this activates both the right and left hemispheres of the brain, thus contributing to the proper functioning of neurons. These outings can also be associated with a feeling of well-being, as art has the ability to bring an immediate sense of calm.

3. Feed on quality content

Today, we are inundated with information: television, social media, newspapers, online articles… The sources are diverse and varied. However, it's important to learn how to sift through information and use these tools wisely. I recommend selecting relevant topics and following pages or channels that offer quality content. Whether on social media or YouTube, virtually every topic is available today. Choose the ones that truly interest you and will help you achieve your goals. Here are a few examples of areas to explore: language learning, sports tips, personal development and motivation, recipes… There's no shortage of informative topics!

4. Eat better!

A healthy mind in a healthy body also depends on good nutrition. The body is a machine, and it's essential to nourish it properly to perform at its best. Avoid foods that are too fatty, too sugary, or too salty, and prioritize quality foods. Say goodbye to fast food and processed meals, and hello to homemade dishes rich in nutrients! Protein, fiber, carbohydrates: the more varied your diet, the better. Indeed, a healthy diet stimulates cognitive abilities and gives you every chance to boost your performance.

5. Respect your biological cycles

Having a healthy lifestyle also means getting enough sleep. Sleep is essential for concentration. If you have a bad night's sleep or accumulate fatigue, your ability to focus on a task will automatically be affected. That's why it's important not to neglect sleep and to maintain a regular schedule. Ideally, establish a routine with similar bedtimes and wake-up times each day. Also, make sure you get enough sleep! Individual needs vary, but it's essential to sleep at least six hours to concentrate well during the day.

If you have trouble falling asleep, limit your screen time before bed, as blue light disrupts the brain. Turn off and stay away from electronic devices at least an hour before going to sleep. You can also dim the lights in your bedroom and use soft LEDs to prepare your body for sleep. Finally, avoid tea and coffee from the afternoon onwards and opt for herbal tea before bed instead.
